BASBOUSA

Basbousa, also known as namoura or harissa, is an Egyptian dessert made from semolina soaked in sugar syrup. The ingredients used are amazingly simple and already available in most of the kitchens.

Once my Egyptian neighbors presented this home cooked basbousa and I was amazed to taste this delicious cake. This drove me to learn this recipe.

When I prepared basbousa at home my family was amazed as it was yummly delicious. Here I am sharing with you all, do try this and share your experience with us.



Ingredients

  • 250 gm Semolina

  • 60 gm Sugar

  • 80 ml Oil/Butter

  • 50 gm Coconut powder

  • 250 ml Curd

  • 1 tsp Baking powder

  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence

  • Few Almonds

Sugar Syrup

  • 250 gm sugar

  • 250 ml water

  • 1 lemon slice

  • 1 tsp rose water

Method:

  1. Take a bowl and add semolina, sugar and baking powder. Using a spatula mix them well.

  2. Then add oil/butter, coconut powder, Curd and vanilla essence and mix well.

  3. Take a baking tray and grease it with butter. Now add the basbousa mix.

  4. Then using a knife make markings and decorate with almonds.

  5. Place the baking tray with basbousa mix in the preheated oven to 180 C for 30-40 minutes.

  6. Now take a saucepan, add sugar and water and stir well until the sugar is dissolved. Later add the lemon and let it stir for 2 more minutes.

  7. Now remove the sugar syrup from the stove, then add rose water.

  8. Now go back to the oven and Check with a toothpick and see that the toothpick comes out clean.

  9. Now run the knife over the markings and pour the sugar syrup over the warm basbousa.

  10. There onwards Basbousa dessert is ready to be served.
