Chicken Buns

There's something truly magical about the perfect fusion of flavors and textures that come together in a single, handheld delight – the chicken bun. Whether you're a culinary explorer seeking new tastes or a comfort food aficionado in search of a satisfying treat, the chicken bun offers an experience that tantalizes the taste buds and warms the heart.


Here's a recipe for chicken buns, a delicious and savory snack:





Ingredients:


For the dough:

- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 teaspoon instant yeast

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1 tablespoon sugar

- 3/4 cup warm milk

- 2 tablespoons melted butter


For the chicken filling:

- 1 cup cooked and shredded chicken (rotisserie or boiled)

- 1 small onion, finely chopped

- 1/2 cup chopped vegetables (carrots, peas, corn, etc.)

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced

- 1 teaspoon curry powder (optional)

- Salt and pepper to taste

- 2 tablespoons oil


Instructions:


For the dough:

1. In a bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. In a larger bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter.

3. Knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook.

4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.


For the chicken filling:

1. In a pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.

2. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

3. Add the chopped vegetables and cook for a few minutes until they begin to soften.

4. Stir in the shredded chicken and curry powder (if using). Season with salt and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.


Assembling:

1. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small balls (about golf ball size).

2. Roll out each dough ball into a circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter.

3. Place a spoonful of the chicken filling in the center of each dough circle.

4. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the filling inside, forming a bun shape.

5. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave some space between them to rise.

6. Cover the buns with a damp cloth and let them rest for about 20-30 minutes.

7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

8. Optionally, brush the buns with an egg wash (1 beaten egg + 1 tablespoon water) for a golden finish.

9. Bake the buns in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.


Once baked, remove the chicken buns from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your homemade chicken buns as a tasty snack or appetizer!
